A celebration of Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster’s exhibition Alienarium 5 at Serpentine South (14 April – 4 September 2022), the catalogue is a richly illustrated journey through this multisensory environment, made up of visions, apparitions, holographic illusion, Virtual Reality experience and scent stretching over several gallery spaces and its surroundings.
In line with the spirit of the exhibition to open up spaces for possible encounters with extraterrestrials, the artist book – in the form of an album – features contributions from two prominent long-time collaborators of the artist, internationally acclaimed novelist Enrique Vila-Matas, and writer, philosopher and curator Paul B. Preciado, as well as writer and academic Tatiana Kontou.
A comprehensive conversation between the artist and Serpentine Artistic Director Hans Ulrich Obrist gives further insight into Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster’s decades-long research into science fiction and apparitions. Designed by John Morgan studio, the publication also includes a poster of Metapanorama, one of the central works in the exhibition, as well as lyrics of the artist’s band Exotourisme.
