Ziggurat is constructed around a conversation between Hans Ulrich Obrist and the remaining survivor of General Idea, AA Bronson. Using the image of the Mesopotamian ziggurat, which appeared in the group's earliest works, the publication unravels the twenty-five year history of the artists’ group. Profusely illustrated in color and black and white, the book provides an overview of their prodigious output of paintings, performances, installations, photographs, publications, and especially their non-stop flow of low-cost editions.
The book is conceived by AA Bronson and published on the occasion of the exhibition General Idea: Ziggurat (November 30, 2017 – 13 January, 2018) at Mitchell-Innes & Nash, New York.
Co-published in part by Maureen Paley, London; Esther Schipper, Berlin; and Mai 36, Zurich.
